Avis Balkcom-Williams, pianist, flutist, saxophonist, is originally from Bridgeport, Connecticut. After years of childhood piano lessons given by her piano-teacher mom,  Avis moved to Washington, DC where she earned her B. Mus Ed. and M. Mus. degrees from Howard University. She has also completed one year of doctoral studies in piano performance at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Avis is a secondary school substitute teacher primarily of music and Spanish, and a church choir director/pianist. She is known for her patience, wit and sense of humor. She is willing to teach anyone ages 5-100 who wants to learn to play the piano.  Lessons and coaching available also for most band and orchestral instruments.
